I am Elizabeth and this is my blog, Doorway to Me. I have wanted to blog for sometime now, but like many of my project ideas, it stayed as just that: an idea. Then I got to thinking and realized that I could use this blog to document my actual execution of these ideas and goals.
For example, as a child I spoke Spanish rather well, swam competitively, and also played the piano. However, come middle and high school, my rebellion took the form of abandoning all those things I had loved because my parents thought it best that I continue.
Now, I am a college graduate, stuck in a job that is not my chosen path, desperately searching for a little "me" time and wishing I had maintained those activities. So I have decided to pick them up again, and add a few new ones to the list! And I will document my progress here, as well as share inspirations and pieces of my life through pictures and musings.
The title of this blog comes from a book I read earlier this summer by the wonderfully beautiful Barbara Kingsolver. Prodigal Summer. I finally got around to reading this amazing work and it has been very inspirational. The quotation is from a character named Lusa who's husband has died and left her with his struggling tobacco farm in Appalachia. She makes the controversial decision to make the farm her own space and break out of the mold of tobacco farming. She tells a relative, "Now I'm starting to think he wasn't supposed to be my whole life, he was just this doorway to me."
When thinking of this blog and what I wanted it to be, I found that quote again and it really stuck with me. Since my graduation from college a year ago I have been stuck in a rut, but after recently moving to a new apartment with my partner Matt and our cat Penelope, I am finally opening my own doorway to me and I'm so excited to share it with you! Thanks for being here.
